- 5/July/2007 [3:29 PM] -- Transformers
Brilliant, inspired, fun and all kinds of awesome! This film rocked in every way, from the script to the acting to the special effects showcase unlike any I have ever seen. They were able to create a spectacular movie without compromising any of the charm of the original Transformers series. And the story goes… two robotic aliens the Autobots and the Decepticons, for centuries, have pursued a war with the fate of the entire universe at stake. When the battle comes to Earth the fate of the universe lands in the hands of Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf), he along with the help of the Autobots is the only thing that stands between the evil Decepticons gaining the ultimate power of the cube which in the wrong hands will only be used for evil. As an average teenage boy, Sam is frenzied with worries of school, girls and cars unaware that he in fact will turn out to be mankind’s last chance for survival. Sam and his friend Mikaela (Megan Fox) find themselves in the middle of an unbelievable battle between good and evil with the world hanging in the balance and learn the true meaning of sacrifice and victory. This film so well done, Shia Labeouf is by far one of my new favorite young actors in Hollywood, he is completely natural and has undeniable charisma. Transformers is so much fun you won’t even know what to do with yourself! I seriously can’t believe this film is not available in MoPix, it really should be considering how much of an action film it is. However, I did see this movie with my big brother Josh and we were able to fill him in and he enjoyed it tremendously as well! With this movie there is definitely “More than meets the eye” LOL!

- 5/July/2007 [2:49 PM] -- Live Free or Die Hard
This is one of the most fun movies I have seen in a very long time! You thought the first Die Hard movie was your favorite? Well think again! Yes given, some of this movie is a little over the top but it is so well done it really doesn’t matter! Bruce Willis reprises the role of John McClane so flawlessly you would hardly know that 12 years has gone by since the last Die Hard installment in 1995. The movie begins on the Fourth of July weekend, McClane is assigned to bring in a young hacker, Matt Farrell (Justin Long) for questioning by the FBI, but this ordinary assignment turns extraordinary when he finds out this young man’s life is in jeopardy by a group of terrorists who Farrell has written a computer code for, these very same people are behind the following attacks on the United States infrastructure which begins to shut down roads, transport and communication of any kind over the entire nation. Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) is the brains behind this clever and devastating attack, he has prepared for every angle but he never figured on the one and only John McClane. With McClane and Farrell working together they slowly begin to understand what is happening and are trying to find a way to stop the devious plan known to uber-geeks as a “fire sale”. This movie possesses all the ingenious humor of the first three Die Hard movies and takes the action, suspense and over all entertainment to whole new level. This film is enjoyable for everyone and is available in MoPix which I highly recommend so you don’t miss a moment of the action. Well played Mr. Willis… well played…

- 5/July/2007 [1:50 PM] -- 1408
“Hotels are naturally creepy places.” Those words spoken by Mike Enslin (John Cusak) and penned by the master of horror, Stephen King, I find to be all to true. To me hotels are very unsettling for all of the reasons shown in this movie. 1408 is a psychological thriller about a paranormal book writer, Mike Enslin, who after the loss of his child has become very skeptical of whether there actually is life after death. After visiting countless so-called haunted places and a run of best-selling books on haunted houses and dwellings Mike is more cynical then ever having never actually witnessed a supernatural occurrence. All of that is about to change when he decides to check into room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel in New York even against the hotel manager’s (Samuel L. Jackson) warnings and Mike begins to experience things he can’t quite explain. Mike Enslin must go from a cynic to a true believer to survive the night. I have to tell you for a PG-13 this movie is very disturbing, I was on the edge of my seat the entire length of the film. This is by far my favorite Stephen King short story. The movie is well acted, beautifully directed and the imagery and sets are amazing to say the least. Cusak has a gift for subtext and really shows what a talented actor he truly is in this film. Jackson plays the eerie hotel keeper superbly. Unfortunately 1408 is not available in MoPix which because of the visual creepiness of the movie is very much needed, however, if you have read the book or you have a sighted friend who can fill you in, it is a sure fire hit. Enjoy and let me know if you’re able to check out… MMMWWWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

- 27/June/2007 [3:30 PM] -- A Mighty Heart
On January 23, 2002, Mariane Pearl’s (Angelina Jolie) life changed forever when her husband Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl (Dan Futterman) vanished soon after bidding her farewell and letting her know he might be late for dinner. That morning he entered a taxi waiting outside the home of his colleague, Asra Nomani (Archie Panjabi) and he never returned. He was on assignment in Pakistan, working on a story about shoe bomber Richard Reid, following a tip which he expected to lead to a one on one interview with Sheik Mubarak Ali Gilani (Ikram Bhatti), a religious figure rumored to be behind many al-Qaeda operations. However, Pearl, who was a Jewish-American, had apparently been betrayed by his source. He thought he’d be meeting with a man that could break his story wide open but instead ended up in the hands of a man named Bashir (Aly Khan) a member of a secret cell of radical Muslims cell taking orders from 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed. When Danny failed to return that evening a five month pregnant Mariane alerted authorities and a massive manhunt ensued that lead to a cooperative effort launched by the Pakistani police, the FBI, and agents of the U.S. State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service. They all embarked on a powerful attempt to bring Danny home.
I heard about this story when it first happened and seeing all of it unfold on the big screen and learning the details made it that much more real to me. It is an emotional and powerful film directed by Michael Winterbottom who is best known for his powerful documentaries. Winterbottom effectively conveys a tasteful sense of realism. Jolie’s performance was completely flawless. She expresses Mariane’s desperation, dedication and love for her husband brilliantly. This is a five star film with a remarkable story. It is not available in MoPix and may be hard to follow without it so I suggest bringing along a sighted friend or waiting for the DVD but this is a must see movie for this year.

- 22/June/2007 [1:36 PM] -- Knocked Up
Director Judd Apatow (The 40 Year Old Virgin) does it again only this time even more hysterical, appealing to a larger audience he becomes a champion of the great all American family values, pushes the envelope as he always does, leaves you wanting more all while bringing attention to a sense of morality. Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl) has a flourishing career at E! Entertainment Channel and has just been promoted to an on-camera position. Alison and her sister Debbie (Leslie Mann) go to a club to celebrate but not long into the evening Debbie gets called away to attend to her children, leaving Alison in the enthusiastic company of charming idler Ben (Seth Rogen). In the intoxicated dark of the nightclub Ben seems like a great guy but in the sober light of the morning Alison realizes that the man she has slept with is just an overgrown child with no direction in life, without a job and without money and also seems to have the social habits of a teenager. Politely brushing him off as a one night stand Alison goes about her life forgetting that the night ever happened until 8 weeks later when she realizes she is pregnant. And thus begins a whirlwind of events that are both uproariously funny as well as heartfelt. With outstanding performances by the entire cast Katherine Heigl finds the perfect balance between comedy and the seriousness of the underlying principles of the story, she is a true talent as any Grey’s Anatomy fan will tell you. Seth Rogen has the ideal blend of charm, humor and lovability that leaves you routing for his character every step of the way. Leslie Mann is luminous as Alison’s neurotic sister Debbie and Paul Rudd is at his absolute best as Debbie’s husband Pete. Although there is some visual humor most of the best moments in the film are brought to the audience through the marvelous dialog. Knocked Up is a great film for everyone who loves to laugh. It is available in MoPix if you would like but I do believe it is easy to follow considering the amount of dialog it has. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up for the film!
